Concept Analysis to Therapeutic Communication of Nursing Students

Abstract

|
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to identify the concept of therapeutic communication in nursing students and define the attributions and clarify the definition of the concept.
Methods: Literatures related to therapeutic communication was reviewed by the approach of Walker & Avant¡¯s concept analysis.
Results: Therapeutic communication of nursing students can be defined by following attributes : 1) empathic understanding, 2) self-awareness, 3) process of forming the relationships. The antecedent factors of communication : 1) negative emotion, 2) maladaptive behavior. There are consequence as a result of therapeutic communication : 1) communication ability promotion, 2) interpersonal ability promotion.
Conclusion: Therapeutic communication as defined by results of this study nursing student mediated communication to enhance therapeutic communication ability and help with problem-solving skills will also enhance interpersonal ability in clinical practice.
